Pond: Prostřední

The Prostřední Pond is part of the U Sedmi rybníků nature reserve, which includes five ponds in the valley of the Vonšovský Brook between Skalná and Františkovy Lázně. In the 19th century, seven ponds connected by canals were built here. Two of them have disappeared and are now wetlands. For example, the goat's-foot trefoil, the three-leaved vachta and the mud horsetail grow here. The area is classified as an EVL; Natura 2000 due to the presence of the protected great crested newt. The aim of the project is to preserve the current form of these sites (to prevent the gradual degradation of the ecosystem due to, for example, overgrowth) regarding the object of protection through careful pond management. Based on long-term monitoring of hydrobiological indicators, individual biomanipulation interventions will be continuously adjusted. At the same time, the site will be used in the context of one of the rescue breeding of local populations of common bream or common sunfish. The result will be a tested method of pond management in accordance with the requirements of the AOPK CR ČR.
